South Downtown Connectivity Vision Plan: I put together a 150-page historic context report and visual resource guide for planners & developers working on this project. Hopefully, the next phase will begin in 2023.
Redlining: I wrapped up my Indiana Humanities Wilma Gibbs Moore research fellowship and adapted some of that content into an Encyclopedia of Indianapolis Feature Story on Indianapolis redlining.
Union Station Plan: I wrote a historic context report related to Union Station, railroads, the Wholesale District, and tourism/hotels, for planners, engineers, and landscape architects. That project should develop into 2023.
Housing Discrimination Exhibit: The Fair Housing Center of Central Indiana launched their housing discrimination traveling exhibit, "Unwelcomed: A Fair Housing History of Sales & Lending Discrimination," that I helped research and curate. It is still making its rounds and will continue to exhibit in 2023.
Central State Hospital Cemetery: I received a National Trust for Historic Preservation research fellowship to look at stigmatized land and sites of trauma after IMPD disturbed patient remains in a known cemetery at Central State Hospital. Some of this research is incorporated into my larger CSH research project for the Indiana Medical History Museum, which wraps next year.
Historic Markers: I helped one of my favorite repeat individual clients with primary source documentation for two Indiana Historical Bureau markers - the first Hook's Drugstore location and the Southside Turnverein. The Hook's marker went up this year and SST goes up in 2023.
Open-Source Textbook: I'm working with Marian University scholars and community organizers on an open-source textbook on narrative and methods of community advocacy. I've been writing about institutions, power, and decolonizing the archives. How activist-scholars can use the archives to further their work. More news on this in 2023.
Missing Middle Housing: Part of my work as contract archivist for the City of Indianapolis-Department of Metropolitan Development includes deep dive reference work. One of the most interesting to date has been surveying historic missing middle housing typologies in the city, so we can reincorporate some of these designs as we've been able to correct zoning issues via Indy Rezone and the ETOD overlay. Employing these historic missing middles allows us to add housing density and affordable housing units.
Riverside Park Promenade: I researched about 150 topics related to the greater Riverside area for the upcoming Riverside Park Promenade project. Some of these topics will be incorporated into historic interpretation panels. The promenade project should be installed next year.
Newfields American Art Gallery Reinterpretation: I'm part of a group of community experts who were invited to reinterpret works in the American Art gallery as part of a gallery refresh. It has a Fred Wilson Mining the Museum vibe. More news to come in January!
